Micromax Bharat 2, the affordable 4G smartphone has been officially listed on the company's website. The company is yet to offically reveal the pricing, but it is expected to be priced at Rs 3,499. The big selling point here is the 4G VoLTE support, which makes the handset compatible with Reliance Jio's 4G-only network.
Micromax Bharat 2 features a 4-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The handset is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum processor coupled with 512MB RAM and 4GB storage. There will only be 2GB user-disposable memory and the smartphone supports expandable storage up to 32GB. It offers a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera. Micromax Bharat 2 is a dual-SIM smartphone and it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The device offers a microUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack. The handset is backed by a 1300mAh battery with a rated talktime of four hours.
Since the commercial availability of Reliance Jio in September, 4G has become the biggest trend among smartphone makers. Reliance Jio also sells LYF-branded 4G VoLTE smartphones at a starting price of Rs 2,999. Reliance Jio recently announced that it has over 72 million subscribers enrolled to its Prime subscription offer.
While Micromax Bharat 2 is an entry-level smartphone, there are reports that home-grown smartphone maker will also introduce 4G VoLTE-enabled feature phone priced under Rs 2,500. There are also rumours hinting at Reliance Jio working with Google on a new 4G VoLTE feature phones priced under Rs 1,500. Micromax Bharat 2 will likely become available online as well as from offline retail channels.
