Micromax A116 Canvas HD: A Quick Pictorial Review

Updated on 08-Feb-2018
HIGHLIGHTS

We've had the Micromax A116 Canvas HD in the test centre for more than a few hours now, busily spewing out benchmark scores, and we decided to give it a vanity break, posing for our camera and showing off its overall design and build quality.

The Micromax Canvas HD, famous for being the first budget quad-core smartphone in the Indian market, is a pretty well-built phablet. It has a distinctly glossy plastic body that manages not to look too cheap, with a slightly pearlescent finish, unlike the more matte finish on the Canvas 2 A110.

The Canvas HD is quite slim as well, measuring in at 10.7mm in thickness. Though heavier, larger and thicker, it’s comparable in form factor (and other ways) with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Both also bear 1280×720 pixel displays, though the Canvas HD has an IPS LCD display, and the Nexus a SAMOLED PenTile display.

In contrast with the rest of the specs sheet, and in complete tune with the Indian budget Android phone market, the Micromax A116 Canvas HD sports dual full-sized SIM slots, with space for a memory card, and a 2,000 mAh battery.

We’ve tried to capture every nook and cranny of the Canvas HD in the below images, along with our observations. Scroll for a tour of the device. We’ve got more images on the next page as well. The scores of the many benchmarks we ran on the Canvas HD can be seen here, comparing it to budget devices in the same price segment, as well as flagship quad-core devices.

IPS vs SAMOLED screen- the Samsung Galaxy Nexus screen is slightly over saturated, being a PenTile display. The IPS screen on the Canvas HD has better color accuracy and pure whites

The Micromax Canvas HD bears a dual-LED flash with its 8MP autofocus rear camera. It has a 2MP front facing camera, capable of 720p HD video recording. It ships with 4GB of built-in storage (of which 1.77GB is user available).

Running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the Canvas HD also ships with a promise of an Android 4.2 upgrade. Micromax has thoughtfully given the smartphone some relatively up-to-date connectivity features as well, with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (hotspot), and 3G (HSDPA 21Mbps, HSUPA 11Mbps). No NFC of course.

The pictorial review of the Micromax A116 Canvas HD continues ahead. Do also check out benchmark scores of the Canvas HD, versus similar budget and quad-core flagship devices.
