Meizu may launch an Ubuntu-powered smartphone at the World Mobile Congress event in Barcelona. The company posted a teaser image on its Twitter account which it said ‘Love Ubuntu’ along with the text, “More Love is awaiting you at MWC 2016.” The company did not reveal any other information about the smartphone. However, reports suggest that the company may launch PRO 5 powered by Ubuntu during the event. Images purported to be of the same were leaked by gizchina.it earlier this month.
If Meizu does launch an Ubuntu-powered variant of the PRO 5, then it would be very good news for fans of the operating system. The device is one of the company's most powerful phones. It is the only non-Samsung phone to be powered by the Exynos 7420 chipset and is also equipped with a 5.7-inch Full HD display. The phone is available in two variants, one with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage and the other with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. At the back is a 21MP primary camera with a 5MP front facing camera. This isn’t the first time Meizu launched an Ubuntu-powered device. Last year, the company launched a variant of the MX4 that was powered by the OS.
