Without revealing much about the phone, Jack Wong said that just like the Xiaomi Mi 8SE, the Meizu X8 will also have the Snapdragon 710 SoC but the latter will sport a bigger display.
Meizu seems to be very serious about giving fellow smartphone-maker Xiaomi a tough time. Earlier this week, a report claimed that Meizu is looking to take on Xiaomi in the Indian market and launch Flipkart-exclusive M6T smartphone in the affordable segment to rival the Redmi 5. Two days later, Meizu is again in the news with its founder Jack Wong claiming that the company will launch Meizu X8 with Snapdragon 710 SoC in China and it will be better than Xiaomi Mi 8 SE that is fueled by the same chipset.
Wong did not reveal much information about the specs and features, but he claimed that the upcoming X8 will be featuring a larger display than the Mi 8 SE. As for the pricing, Wong said the handset will be priced under 2,000 Yuan (approximately Rs 20,700). If you missed the action from Xiaomi’s May 31 mega eight anniversary event on its home turf, the Chinese conglomerate launched its Mi 8 smartphone, along with the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and a smaller Mi 8 SE model. Apart from the smartphones, MIUI 10 was also showcased, along with the unveiling of the Mi Band 3, a 75-inch Mi LED TV 4 and the Mi VR Standalone headset.
The Mi 8 SE features a 5.8-inches Full HD+ 18.7: 9 display with a notch on top and it comes in two variants, one with 4GB RAM/64GB storage and another with or 6GB RAM with 64GB of internal memory. The smartphone features a 12MP+5MP dual camera setup on the rear, while on the front is a 20MP sensor. It is backed by a 3120 mAh battery and it will be available in Red, Blue, Gold and Black colour variants. The Mi 8 SE’s base model starts at CNY 1,799 (Rs 19,000 approx) whereas its 6GB RAM variant costs Yuan 1999 (Rs 21,080 approx).
With the available information, we can say Meizu wants to be very competitive with Xiaomi with the placement, the specs and features as well as the pricing of its products. As we mentioned, not only in China, Meizu wants to hamper Xiaomi’s share in India as well, which is one of the biggest markets for the latter. Xiaomi is also expected to bring the Mi 8 SE to India in the name of Mi 8i soon alongside the Mi Band 3. The ‘i’ in Mi 8i stands for India and it could be priced between Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 which coincides with the price of the phone in China.
