MediaTek launches gaming-focused Helio G80 chipset with enhanced HyperEngine Technology

The MediaTek G80 chipset features a cluster of two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2GHz.

The Helio G80 comes equipped with the in-house CorePilot, NeuroPilot, Pump Express, Tiny Sensor Hub, and Integrated VoW (voice on wakeup) technologies.

The company says it will come to the market in India first with the launch of smartphones, later this month.

MediaTek launched the Helio G90 flagship gaming chipset last year. Recently, the company expanded the range with the launch of Helio G70. Now, MediaTek has taken the middle ground and launched the Helio G80 chipset. The new offering leverages the in-house HyperEngine technology to offer a better gaming output and connectivity experience. MediaTek is yet to reveal details about any upcoming phone(s) powered by the Helio G80 SoC.

The MediaTek G80 chipset features a cluster of two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2GHz. The other six Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at 1.8GHz. It supports up to 8GB RAM operating at a frequency of 1800MHz, and eMMC5.1 storage standard. It is a 4G-only chipset that comes with the Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU for graphics. The HyperEngine Game Technology enables the Helio G80 to deliver smoother gaming performance with better resource management with regards to power and thermals.

The Helio G80 comes equipped with the in-house CorePilot, NeuroPilot, Pump Express, Tiny Sensor Hub, and Integrated VoW (voice on wakeup) technologies. As for the hardware part, the MediaTek Helio G80 supports up to dual 16MP sensors or a single 48MP sensor. The features include electronic image stabilisation (EIS), Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC), and AI-assisted face unlock. Coming to the connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS, and 4G LTE.

The MediaTek G80 is based on the 12nm manufacturing process. The company says it will make its way to the Indian market with the launch of smartphones later this month.
