MediaTek Dimensity 1300 goes official: AV1 decoding, 168Hz display refresh rate support
Dimensity 1300 is a minor refresh over Dimensity 1200
The SoC promises better gaming optimizations and 10% AI performance improvement.
OnePlus Nord 2T could be the first phone with MediaTek Dimensity 1300.
MediaTek has quietly made its 6nm process based Dimensity 1300 mid-range chipset official. The 5G chip is an interactive upgrade over Dimesity 1200 with the same core specs but promises better AI performance and upgrades to HyperEnginge 5.0 gaming suite
MediaTek Dimensity 1300 Features
Similar to the Dimensity 1200 from last year, the Dimensity 1300 follows a 1+3+4 core configuration. The ‘Ultra’ Cortex-A78 core is clocked at 3.0GHz and the other three Big Cortex-a78 cores ticking at 2.6 GHz. The 4 Cortex-A55 efficiency cores are clocked at 2.0GHz.
MediaTek retains the same 9-core Arm Mali G77MP9 GPU, which was earlier used on Dimensity 1000 and Dimensity 1200, and frankly feels a little long in the tooth for 2022.
The company updates its HyperEngine 3.0 gaming to HyperEngine 5.0, which should result in better game mode optimizations. MediaTek doesn’t divulge exactly how much of an impact this will have on practical gaming performance. Other than that, MediaTek claims a 10% improvement in handling AI workloads.
The chipset supports up to 168Hz refresh rate, 2520 x 1080 display resolution, AV1 codec, up to 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
As for the camera capabilities, the Dimensity 1300 supports multi-camera configurations of 32+16MP and a single camera configuration of 200MP. The SoC supports Staggered 4K HDR video recording with real-time 3-exposure fusion.
Nothing has changed on the connectivity front. The Dimensity 1300 supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and dual-mode 5G. There is no support for mmWave 5G, but that’s understandable considering the markets where the SoC will likely be deployed.
Overall, very little has changed as compared to MediaTek Dimensity 1200.
MediaTek Dimensity 1300 Phones (Expected)
Rumours related to Dimensity 1300 phones have already started surfacing. The chipset is likely to show up in the upcoming OnePlus Nord 2T. A few other vendors including Xiaomi, Poco and Oppo are likely to use Dimesity 1300 for their mid-range phones.
