MediaTek announces Dimensity 8300 processor: Will compete with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3

The Mediatek Dimensity 8300 chipset is an octa-core processor.

This new Mediatek chipset houses the Mali-G615 MC6 GPU.

The RAM speed support on the chipset has been improved from 6400MHz to 8300MHz.

MediaTek has recently delivered a new chipset to the market, and this time one for the mid-range smartphones. This is the newly launched MediaTek Dimensity 8300. In certain ways, the Dimensity 8300 is considered to be similar to MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9300 chipset. It can also be seen as a close competitor to Snapdragon’s 7 Gen 3, which was also recently announced.

MediaTek Dimensity 8300 SoC specifications

The Mediatek Dimensity 8300 chipset is an octa-core processor and incorporates 4 ARM Cortex-A715 cores along with 4 ARM Cortex-A510 cores. The Dimensity 8300 is based on TSMC’s 2nd generation 4nm process. Compared to its predecessor, the brand-new chipset offers a 20% performance boost and consumes 30% less power, as informed by the company itself.

Moving forward to the GPU, this new Mediatek chipset houses the Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. This allows for a 60% increased performance, and at the same time consumes 55%  less power.

It’s the era of AI, and keeping that knowledge in mind, MediaTek has also introduced a new dedicated APU 780 AI processor. This allows generative AI models to run on the device itself, with up to 10 billion parameters. This feature is similar to that previously seen on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. 

Next, the RAM speed support on the chipset has been improved from 6400MHz to 8300MHz. This means that while multitasking, one can see a 33% improvement. On top of that, the chipset also supports the more advanced UFS 4.0.

It also allows for video recording in 4K at 60fps, which is also similar to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. MediaTek has also introduced a new feature that will allow users to record 4K HDR videos on two cameras at the same time. Plus users also get flagship-grade video noise reduction and an AI-Color Content Smart ISP.

Not to forget the gamers, the Mediatek Dimensity 8300 chipset supports MediaTek’s ‘Adaptive Game Technology 2.0’ and the  Modem Express 2.0.
