Maxx Mobile has launched a new feature phone called the MX100 Leader. Priced at Rs. 1,932, the new Maxx phone is powered by a 4400mAh battery.

The MX100 Leader features dual-SIM support, GPRS connectivity, Bluetooth and in-built LED torch, MP3/MP4 player and FM Radio. The phone supports expandable storage up to 16GB. According to Maxx, the MX100 Leader is water and dust resistant.

Maxx is aiming to tap the rural, semi-urban and interior parts of India with its new feature phone.

“The current mobile handset penetration in rural India is less than 40%. We are aware of the great potential which lies in these markets. It is for this reason that we have paid special attention to the specific requirements of our consumers who hail from semi-urban and interior parts of India and tailor made the MX100 Leader,” Krishna Singh, COO, Maxx Mobile is quoted as saying.

Even as Maxx has launched a new feature phone, the company earlier this year launched two dual-SIM smartphones – AX8 Race and AX9Z Race – priced at Rs. 8,875 and Rs. 12,375 respectively.

With growing popularity of smartphones, especially the budget ones, sales of feature phones has seen a drastic slide. According to the latest IDC report, share of feature phones has slid to 81% of the total market in third quarter of 2013.

Another report by CyberMedia says feature phone sales declined by 0.8 percent – for a first time – in July-Sept 2013.
