LG V30 renders suggest slide-out secondary display
The renders are believed to be an old mockup of the device and it is not yet confirmed if the project is headed in that direction
The second flagship smartphone from LG, the V30, is expected to arrive sometime later this year. Notable leaker Evan Blass has now posted a series of images of a concept phone with a slide-out secondary display. He believes the handset, codenamed Project Joan is an old mockup of the LG V30, and may not be the final product. The renders show a primary display that could slide out to reveal the second one under it. The design seems similar to BlackBerry Priv, which features a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
Weekend bonus: this is an old-ish mockup of Project Joan, a.k.a. the LG V30. Not clear if the project is still headed in this direction. [1] pic.twitter.com/k5jNJ7DyLz

Finally, several use-case scenarios for the second screen. [3] pic.twitter.com/ZKucMOScam

The secondary display could be used as a keyboard or customisable controls depending upon the app running on the device. For example, the image shows music controls while using music player or app shortcuts like phone or maps, while texting. The renders also suggest 21:9 aspect ratio with the slide-out secondary display. The second screen use-case scenarios also mimic the rumoured functional area on Apple's upcoming iPhone 8.
At its recent I/O event, Google may have inadvertantly confirmed that the smartphone may feature an OLED panel. The company said that LG's upcoming device was going to support its Daydream VR platform, and only OLED panels are capable of meeting its requirements.
