Highlights
If you're looking forward to the LG G8 ThinQ, then you don’t need to wait much longer. LG has released a teaser that confirms the launch date of the smartphone. The LG G8 ThinQ will be unveiled at MWC 2019 on February 24 at the company’s press conference. The released teaser is a mere 13 seconds long and and highlights, "goodbye touch". After that a hand swipes the text away to reveal the launch date. The teaser doesn't explicitly say LG G8 ThinQ, but since the announcement is during the world's largest mobile expo, it is safe to assume that the launch will be of a phone.
Speaking of the LG G8 ThinQ, last week, press renders and a 360-degree video of the LG G8 were leaked. It is expected that the smartphone will run on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 platform. Speculating on the optics, it is suggested that the G8 may house a triple camera setup with 3D photography capabilities and may have a waterdrop notch. The renders show that there is a fingerprint scanner on the back with LG branding at the bottom. On the front, two selfie shooters are seen, which could be the same as the cameras found on the V40 ThinQ. The phone may feature a USB Type-C port, loudspeaker grille, a 3.5mm audio socket and antenna bands at the bottom edge. The power button and SIM tray could rest on the right side of the phone, while the volume buttons and a dedicated button to summon the Google Assistant are seen on the left in the renders. LG has been one smartphone maker that has emphasised on the audio capabilities of their smartphones and we expect the G8 to deliver on that front as well.
We recently spent some time with the LG V40 ThinQ. In our impressions of the device we said, “The LG V40 ThinQ continues to improve an already very impressive product lineup from LG. It is sad to see the company’s flagship smartphones not sell well when they are actually quite amazing smartphones. We were thoroughly impressed by the LG G7+ and couldn’t recommend it enough to our friends and family for the overall value for money proposition it offered. The LG V40 ThinQ definitely caught our interest, but it remains to be seen just how much of a powerhouse the phone is and how good of an imaging stack it packs”.
