LG has unveiled a new smartphone range called AKA, featuring digital eyes above phones' display that is supposed to define your persona. Supposedly pronounced as AW-kuh, the new range is available in four models – Eggy, Wooky, Soul and YoYo.
Eggy is the yellow creature, which falls in love easily. Wooky, the white model, likes slang and is “cute”. YoYo, the only female of the family, loves hamburgers and drinking cokes. Soul is a dark navy blue character is fond of music. The phones come changeable sleeve covers, embedded with a microchip, to switch moods/characters. The AKA also allows users to post selfies to Aka’s Instagram account.
LG's new phones are not powerful specs centric, and evidently aimed at youth. However, as far as hardware goes, LG's AKA features 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, Android KitKat, 5-inch HD display, 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front facing camera, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage (supports microSD for additional storage).
LG’s new phones are price at 500,000 Korean won, or $460. The devices are currently available in South Korea, and it's highly unlikely they released in other markets.
LG's AKA, silly it may seem, is certainly eye-catching, and is very different from the ongoing trend that is heavily focussed on displays, processors and hi tech cameras. While powerful spec'd phones seem to be the future, it's really nice to see companies such as LG trying something out of the box, ensuring phones come with a style statement.
