LG is the latest manufacturer to provide more details about its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich roll-out plans. The company says the the ICS upgrade, which it announced earlier this year, should arrive by second and third quarters of 2012. The first LG devices to receive the ICS update are LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. During the Q3, LG plans to roll out the ICS upgrade to devices such as LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.
“LG will be taking all possible measure to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner. The exact start dates can vary by market, as each country can have different requirements, depending on the carrier and the smartphone model,” said the company in a Facebook post.
Prior to LG’s ICS upgrade announcement, Samsung and Sony Ericsson have already revealed their ICS plans. Samsung will not be rolling out the ICS update to its Galaxy S phones. However, Sony Ericsson officially confirmed that it would be rolling out the latest Android platform in early 2012.
The first Sony Ericsson devices to receive the ICS update include the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray. Other Sony Ericsson devices such as the original Arc, the Xperia Play, original Neo and the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro duo – plus the Xperia Active and Live with Walkman would also get the latest Android OS.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is likely to be the first smartphone to arrive in India with the latest Android platform. The Galaxy Nexus will be followed by Huawei’s Honor, which is also scheduled to arrive in February 2012.
