LG has sent out invites to the international media, which hints at the launch of the Optimus G2. The event is scheduled for August 7 and the smartphone is expected to hit store shelves in South Korea around August 20. There is no information on the global or India release date of the smartphone.
Leaks on the Internet suggest that the Optimus G2 will have a 5.2-inch IPD full HD display and will run on Android 4.2.2. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 800 chipset quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.3GHz coupled with 2GB of RAM. LG may consider bumping up the RAM to 3GB. A 2700mAh battery powers the device.
The rear of the G2 will house a 13MP camera and it is speculated that the device will offer dual speakers at the bottom.
Just like the LG Optimus G was used as the reference design for the Nexus 4, the LG Optimus G2 is thought to be the reference for the next generation Nexus, the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 however is expected to launch around October with the rumoured date being October 5. The next nexus smartphone is expected to be the flagship device to run the next Android OS, Key Lime Pie.
It is great to see LG and Google partner once more for a Nexus device but this brings us to the question, what about the Moto X phone? Won’t Google be launching two smartphones in the market that would stand as a competition to one another? Whatever the case, we hope that Google will be well prepared for the demand of the phone and won’t face a stock shortage which was the case with the Nexus 4.
