Better late than never, LG has launched its G Pro smartphone in India for Rs. 42,500. The Optimus G Pro is quite premium-priced when compared to the smartphones it is competing against, such as the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, and Sony Xperia Z. The large screen G Pro smartphone was first unveiled at MWC 2013 in February.

The LG Optimus G Pro boasts of a 5.5-inch 1080p HD display. It runs on a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor along with 2GB of RAM. It has 32GB built-in storage expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card, a 13MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front-facing camera. The device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out-of-the-box. The smartphone is 9.4mm in thickness and is powered by a 3140mAh battery. We have already had some hands on time with the LG Optimus G Pro at an event that took place in Delhi in April.

A quick look at the specifications of the Optimus G Pro shows that the smartphone will take on the Samsung Galaxy Note II, which has been quite a success in the Indian market. Under the hood, an Exynos 4412 quad-core 1.6GHz processor and the Mali-400MP GPU power the Note II. It has 2GB RAM along with 16GB built-in storage expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card. It houses a 5.5-inch 1280×720 pixels Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 2. The rear of the device has an 8MP camera and it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out-of-the-box.

The LG Optimus G Pro can also be considered as the successor to the LG Optimus G. The Optimus G was the first quad-core powered smartphone to hit the US store shelves and is also the hardware reference smartphone for the Nexus 4, which LG manufactures for Google.

The LG Optimus G Pro has been priced quite premiumly when compared to other devices available in the market. If you are in the market to pick up a premium smartphone you can consider the iPhone 5, BlackBerry Q10, BlackBerry Z10, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z and the Note II before making your purchase decision.
