LG Optimus 4X HD finally gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update
LG has announced the Optimus 4X HD has started receiving its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in Europe, and that the update should roll-out globally soon.
Good news for LG Optimus 4X HD owners – one of the most recent Android Jelly Bean updates (v4.1) will be available for the Optimus 4X HD smartphone.
Launched last year, the Optimus 4X HD was designed to be used as a benchmark in the smartphone experience. The phone boasts of an impressive 4.7-inch IPS display with a 1,280×720 pixel resolution, an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor running at 1.5 GHz, 16GB of storage, and an 8MP rear-facing camera.
Critics argued that LG wasn’t taking care of its customers, and that phones just one generation old such as Optimus 4X HD, weren’t getting updates. This has finally been proven wrong, though LG did take its own sweet time bringing the update to its first quad-core phone more than year after its release in February 2012, and nearly a year after the May 2012-released Samsung Galaxy S III got its own Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will bring significant performance improvements, such as Project Butter, apart from a variety of interface tweaks. Check out the full list of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean changes. LG has also confirmed that an update to Android 4.1 is now available for customers across Europe, and will begin to roll-out globally soon.
To update, customers will have to connect the phone to their PC and run LG’s own update software. The software is available direct from LG, although an over the air version of the update may be released in some time if users don’t want to install manually.
LG might as well have released the Android 4.2 update directly, as the Android 4.1 update once again invites further delays to 4.2, though we hope it happens pretty fast, as the gap between the two versions is quite small.
