LG is set to manufacture its third Nexus smartphone for Google – the rumoured Nexus 5 (2015 version). The device, according to a report by Android Pit, is not being built around LG’s new flagship, the LG G4. While this was the common trend for building a Nexus device, the Nexus 5 (2015 version) will reportedly be built around an unreleased prototype.
Huawei have been chosen as the other manufacturer to build a larger screen version of the Nexus 5 (2015 version), supporting rumours that this year's Nexus device will have two versions. After the failure of the Nexus 6 on account of a huge 6-inch screen and a high price point, the new Nexus 5 is expected to have a smaller screen and come at a cheaper price point.
Android Police has reported that the LG-made Nexus 5, codenamed Bullhead, will feature a 5.2-inch display, along with a battery powered at around 2700mAh. It is also rumoured to house the Snapdragon 808 hexa-core SoC – the same chipset that the LG G4 has. The Huawei-made Nexus 5, codenamed Angler, will be a bigger, more expensive device. It has been rumoured to feature a 5.7-inch display, 3500mAh battery, and the Snapdragon 810 octa-core SoC. While none of these specifications have been confirmed, the two versions of this year’s Nexus are likely to resemble the older LG Nexus 5 and Moto Nexus 6 devices.
Meanwhile, with two phones rumoured to be in the making, there will probably be no Nexus tablet this year. The word from rumour stables suggest that the Nexus 9 will lead Google’s Nexus tablet line for another cycle. The new Nexus phones are expected around October/November – their usual launch time.
