LG G6 may launch early to get a head start on Samsung, phone renders leak online
HIGHLIGHTS

Information circulating the Internet suggests that LG may unveil the G6 before MWC 2017, and the smartphone may hit store shelves as early as March 2017

If reports on the Internet are to be believed, then the LG G6 will hit store shelves as early as late February or early March 2017. To put things into perspective, the LG G5 was announced at MWC 2016 and went on sale in April 2016. The LG G5 launched in India in June 2016.

If rumours circulating the Internet are to be believed, then Samsung will launch the Galaxy S8 in April 2017. In 2016 Samsung launched the S7 in March. LG is looking to cash in on the delay on Samsung’s part by launching the G6 earlier. Whether the first movers advantage works in LG’s favour is something that we will have to wait and watch. Manufacturers have always tried to one up each other by launching their smartphones earlier, but we think the success or failure of the G6 and the S8 depends on the features the smartphones pack. Remember that awesome Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone that ruined its reputation by exploding? Until then it was a pretty good device.

Leaked renders of the LG G6 have started making the rounds online. If the renders are to be believed, then the smartphone will have a design similar to that of the LG G5. We doubt the modular nature of the smartphone will carry forward to the G6. There is no information available about the specifications of the device but we think it will house the Snapdragon 821 SoC along with 4 or 6GB RAM. The renders show that the device will have a dual camera setup. Maybe removable batteries will make a comeback in 2017 since its one of the things we liked about the LG V20. LG hasn’t really had a great year as the G5's modular design failed to impress customers. Moto on the other hand showed us how a modular design is done right on a smartphone. LG will have to pack in some seriously innovative features to get not only some attention but praise as well.

If there is one thing we learned in 2016, it is that you don’t need a flagship smartphone to make a mark in the market. We have seen companies like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Lenovo and more launch devices that have truly impressed us. If you are in the market to pick up a smartphone today, you may want to check out Digit’s Zero1 awards where we honour the best devices that launched in 2016.
