Leaked benchmark scores of the LG G5 suggest the phone might feature Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM and Android 6.0.1 out of the box

LG is expected to launch the next flagship, the LG G5 at MWC Barcelona on February 21 and as that date is nearing closer, rumours are starting to mount up about the phone. A new leak that surfaced earlier today suggests that the alleged smartphone is running on the rumoured specifications comprising of the Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm. LG had earlier confirmed that the upcoming phone will have an always on display as well.

In the leaked Geekbench benchmark results, the alleged LG G5 smartphone bearing a model number LG-F700S, scores 2268 in the single-core test and 5061 points in the multi-core test. The Geekbench scores run a series of tests such as Javascript based AES test (Advanced Encryption Standard), JPEG compression, etc. These tests let the benchmark measure Integer performance, floating point performance and memory performance of the SoC in the device. Each test is done in single thread and multithread mode and the time taken by these tests in both modes is then recorded. Then the benchmark applies its arithmetic algorithm and puts out a single-core and a multi-core score. Going by the alleged scores, both the single-core and multi-core scores seem fairly decent.

According to the leaked benchmark listing, the upcoming flagship will have 4GB of RAM and will be running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The G5 is expected to come with a metal unibody design. Rumours suggest that the design might differ from the current generation LG lineup as the volume rocker will be moved from the back to the side of the smartphone. At the back, the phone may sport a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera.

The LG G5 is expected to sport a 5.3-inch display. According to rumours, the phone will offer a QHD resolution via that always-on display. There is also chatter that the phone might have small secondary display, something similar to what LG used on the LG V10. While rival Samsung is likely to carry forward its glass and metal design, LG is rumoured to bring an all metal build this year. However, the most interesting rumour about the phone suggests that LG G5 will feature a “magic slot” that will let users to expand the hardware capabilities of the phone. Apart from these rumoured specifications, the phone is expected to include an USB Type-C port, an IR blaster and a pressure sensitive display.

Samsung is also launching its two new Galaxy S7 phones, on February 21 as well. Both these phones are expected to be powered by Exynos 8890 SoC. Rumours also suggest that samsung will also launch a different variant of the phone featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. It is supposed to sport 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, in the base models. Screen sizes and resolutions are expected to be maintained, thus the S7 is likely to sport a 5.1-inch display and the S7 Edge might sport a 5.5-inch display which will be curved around the edges.
