HIGHLIGHTS

The LG G4 is the Korean company's flagship smartphone for 2015 and comes with features missing from the Samsung Galaxy S6.

LG has announced that its latest flagship, the G4, will be available in Indian stores from mid-June. While addressing an event in Mumbai, LG also revealed that the phone can be preordered now, and consumers will start receiving their phones towards the end of June. The LG G4 will be priced at Rs. 51,000, and those who preorder will receive some freebies, including a battery charge cradle, one-time screen replacement and a metallic back cover, a bundle that LG claims is worth Rs. 12,000.

The LG G4 has a 5.5 inch Quad-HD Display, coming in at 534 ppi, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 4. Doing the grunt work is a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. For those wondering why LG chose the 808 instead of the current top of the line processor, the 810, it is because the 810 is known to suffer from heating issues. You also get 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD Card slot. Mind you, such high capacity cards aren’t available yet, but it means that LG has made the G4 future-proof at least in terms of storage. You also get 100GB of Google Drive space, valid for 2 years.

Last year, LG introduced laser autofocus as a feature in the G3’s camera, claiming it to be one of the fastest in the market, and this year, it has included a refined version of the feature with the G4’s 16MP Camera that has a f/1.8 aperture. Like all other flagships, it has a dual-LED dualtone flash, and is capable of shooting 4K Videos.

Coming to the LG G4’s battery, it has a capacity of 3000mAh, which supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology, meaning it can charge to up to 60% in 30 minutes. Of course, for a full-charge, it would take a few hours, but when you are in a hurry, the Quick Charge feature can help. LG also has got it covered in the connectivity department, with LTE Cat 6, Bluetooth, NFC, Wifi ac, GPS and an IR Blaster. The phone LG is launching in India is dual-SIM, which is rare when it comes to flagships. The G4 runs Lollipop with LG’s custom UI, and like all other OEM customizations, has a few gimmicky features, but there are some that you may find useful.

Last year’s G3 was more well-received than LG’s previous efforts, praised by critics and even appeasing users. It didn’t manage to race past Samsung, of course, but it sold more than LG’s previous flagships. This year, the G4 has a few features that its main competitor, the S6 doesn’t, namely a removable battery, a microSD card slot and dual-SIM support. Interestingly, the S5 had all these features, and this year, the G4 may appease those users who are disappointed that the S6 lacks these features.
