After a few months of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 being unveiled, it is finally ready to be featured in smartphones of 2016.

In a recently-released statement, Chinese electronics giant Letv has stated that it will soon be launching a number of smartphones running on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 chipset. These launches will make Letv the first company to launch a smartphone running on Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for 2016.

Among this series, the first device to present the Snapdragon 820 experience to users is the Letv Le Max Pro. The Le Max Pro, alongside running on the new chipset, is powered by the Adreno 530 graphics chipset, and 4GB of RAM. It has a 6.33-inch IPS-panel LCD display, with resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and 24-bit colour depth. The 464ppi display is flanked by very slim bezels, and the metal unibody construction has a slightly curved rear panel that aims to aid ergonomics and usability, despite the large dimensions. The Le Max Pro will offer storage variants of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, without options of expanding the storage. A 3400mAh battery pack powers the entire setup.

Alongside these, the Letv Le Max Pro will also feature Qualcomm’s Sense ID ultrasonic fingerprint technology, which is expected to be faster and more accurate than the fingerprint sensor mechanisms out in the market today. The 21-megapixel primary camera is powered by Sony’s IMX230 image sensor, an older iteration of the mobile imaging sensors produced by Sony. The Le Max Pro is capable of recording 4K videos through the rear camera, and the front camera is a 2-megapixel Ultrapixel camera powered by an OmniVision OV4688 CMOS BSI sensor. The front camera is fit with an f/2.0 wide angle lens to aid self portraits. Audio performance is aided by AKG Audio and LeHiFi technologies. The Letv Le Max Pro also features a USB Type-C reversible port, based on USB 2.0 standard. To aid charging the phone, the Le Max Pro also comes with Qualcomm’s Fast Charging technology.

"This is the hardware setup that most 2016 flagships will feature"

The Letv Le Max Pro’s hardware configuration is what should power most flagship smartphones in 2016. Along with becoming the first smartphone to run on the Snapdragon 820 chipset, the Letv Le Max Pro will also be the first phone to feature WiFi standard 802.11ad, which will be particularly helpful in large file transfers between devices, and high fidelity media streaming.

With this, the floodgates of powerful smartphones is on the verge of opening. A number of smartphone manufacturers, including Sony, Samsung and Xiaomi, are expected to launch their own flagship smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 820 in near future. While Xiaomi has confirmed the Mi 5 to launch in February 2016, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S7 with two variants (Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820), and Sony is expected to present its own Xperia Z6 lineup later this year. As the year progresses, we will see how the manufacturers refine the processing power to present better and improved user experiences.
