Lenovo, the Chinese technology multinational, has admittedly fired over 1100 employees or a little less than 2% of its workforce. The company is said to have a 55,000 strong employee base globally, and the recent layoffs have majorly cut down on staff from the company’s Motorola Mobility Smartphone division.
Lenovo is calling this move a part of an “ongoing strategic integration between Lenovo and its Motorola smartphone business.” The company went on to add that the move was crucial to sustain its financial well-being. Remember Lenovo bought Motorola back in 2014, making it the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer.
Back in May 2016, Lenovo had admitted that its Motorola integration “didn’t meet expectations”. The company had also reduced its work population by 3200 last year as a part of streamlining their mobile and PC business.
