HIGHLIGHTS

The Xiaomi Mi5 will reportedly have the world's thinnest fingerprint sensor. Why is that important? We're not quite sure.

Chinese OEM Xiaomi may be taking its time, but the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 flagship can’t seem to be leaked enough. The newest in the line of leaks includes a 27 second video, showing the Mi5, placed on a stand. The device has been leaked multiple times over the past few months, with rumours ranging from very believable to downright untrue. Of course, the company has kept mum about the device, but almost every detail of the phone has been leaked by now. In addition to the display, press renders of the Xiaomi Mi5 have also been leaked, showing the smartphone in Black, Gold, Pink and White colours.

Further, the video seems to confirm a leak from last week, where the Xiaomi Mi5 was shown to have the world’s smallest fingerprint sensor and a 2.5D curved glass display on the front. The phone is also said to have 3D glass on the back. The fingerprint sensor on the Mi5 is slim and oval shaped and both the press renders and video show the same. The smartphone is also expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 SoC, along with 4GB and 3GB RAM variants. In addition, the Mi5 is also expected to have a 5.2 inch display, sporting QHD and 1080p displays. Differentiation is also expected in terms of the internal storage on the phone, with 32GB and 64GB variants. The Mi5 will reportedly be powered by a 3600 mAh battery.

While all of this leaves only the price to be known, there have been rumours about that as well. According to leaks last week, the Xiaomi Mi5 will be priced at CNY 1,999 (approx. Rs. 20,000) for the 32GB/3GB variant, while the 64GB/4GB variant will cost CNY 2,299 (approx Rs. 23,000). Rumours have also suggested that the Xiaomi Mi5 may not be launched before April 2016.
