Leaked renders indicate OnePlus X (Mini) in the works
Renders of the rumoured OnePlus X (Mini) show dual-camera, circular fingerprint scanner and metal frame. Could be launched in October for $249.
A couple of press renders, purportedly of the new OnePlus device, surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo today. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei had previously hinted at the possibility of a new phone by the end of the year. It now appears that the phone might turn out to be the OnePlus X (Mini).
It looks like the new device will be sporting a metal frame along with two speaker grills at the bottom. Unlike the OnePlus 2, the new device has a circular fingerprint scanner at the back. The render also shows dual-camera and dual-LED flash. The phone seems to have a slimmer profile, although it maintains the design philosophy of OnePlus phones. According to a GizmoChina source, the new device may be called the OnePlus X. The renders were allegedly leaked on the popular Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo.
In August, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei had confirmed that the company will be releasing a new phone by the end of the year, in an interview to USA Today. “There’s going to be a second phone this year, before the end of the year. Hopefully for Christmas. It may or may not be (higher spec’d than the OnePlus 2),” Pei had said. In another interview with Bloomberg, he hinted that the new phone might be targeted towards “those who appreciate design over specs." GizmoChina’s source had said that the phone will be announced in October at a price of $249. “Let’s just say that OnePlus 2 will be the only flagship phone for 2015. We believe in making few but great products and will never bloat up our product lines,” Pei said, when asked by Digit about the second OnePlus phone this year. That should confirm speculations that the new device will indeed have lower specs than the OnePlus 2. The $249 price tag also seems credible.
We’re yet to come across any details about the hardware, and all the speculation is based on the two leaked renders. However, it seems quite likely that the leaks are genuine, given what we’ve so far heard from Pei. For now, we have to wait until further details are leaked in the coming days.
