Images allegedly showing replaceable rear covers of the upcoming Moto Z smartphone have been posted on Google+ by user, hellomotoHK. The covers will apparently be called ‘Style Mods’, and judging by the images, will be made of materials like leather, wood and ballistic nylon. It seems, Style Mods may only alter the aesthetics of the phone, unlike the MotoMods, which are tipped to be modular attachments that improve upon certain features of the device.
Last month, @evleaks posted an image reportedly showing three of the MotoMods. One of the backplates appeared to be a camera grip with a shutter button and a flash module. It also appears that this would cover the primary camera of the Moto Z and use its own sensor to take pictures. However, the purpose of the remaining two MotoMods wasn’t as clear. One appears to have a kickstand, while nothing much could be discerned about the final backplate. The MotoMods will most likely dock with the phone via a connector located on the back of the device.
Motorola is tipped to launch two variants of the device called the Moto Z Style and the Moto Z Play, which are codenamed Vector Thin and Vertex respectively. The devices are expected to be unveiled on June 9.
