Xiaomi launched Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Mi 8 SE smartphones earlier this year. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition has an in-display fingerprint sensor and the Mi 8 SE is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710. During that period, XDA Developers had claimed that two Xiaomi smartphones that were codenamed as ‘Sirius’ and ‘Comet’ would be powered by the 710 SoC. The ‘Sirius’ smartphone was made official as the Mi 8 SE but there was no official word on the ‘Comet’ smartphone. Now, a leakster has claimed that Xiaomi is looking to add another phone, the Xiaomi Mi 8X, in line-up that will reportedly come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, Snapdragon 710 and it could be the rumored ‘Comet’ smartphone.
The leakster posted the images of the rumoured smartphone which is tipped to be available in White and Blue colours. The reason why the Mi 8X is said to sport an in-display fingerprint sensor is because the images that have been posted on Weibo do not feature a conventional fingerprint scanner on the back panel. There is a dual-camera setup on the rear.
Just when these images were being reported upon in the media, another image of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun surfaced on Weibo. He is seen carrying a mysterious phone that matches the design of the smartphone in question — having a dual-camera system but lacking a fingerprint sensor. However, there is a high possibility that the image could have been photoshopped given the traction that the rumoured Xiaomi Mi 8X was getting at that point of time. A report claims that this particular smartphone is expected to launch with an OLED display and without a notch. It will run on Android 8.1 Oreo and house a 3,100mAh battery. In a related report, SlashLeaks had previosuly shared an image of the alleged White coloured variant of the Xiaomi Mi 8X.
