Is your iPhone ready for Apple Intelligence? Here’s a list of supported devices
Apple introduced iOS 18 with Apple Intelligence at WWDC in June.
iOS 18 is supported by over 20 iPhone models.
However, Apple Intelligence is only supported by the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple introduced iOS 18 with a significant focus on AI-driven features, collectively known as Apple Intelligence, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. These features include on-device image generation, a ChatGPT-powered Siri, automatic call recording and transcription, and more.
Historically, Apple has been known for making its latest software updates compatible with a wide range of devices, allowing users with older iPhones to enjoy new features. However, this time, Apple Intelligence will not be available across all supported devices.
While iOS 18 is supported by over 20 iPhone models, Apple Intelligence is only available for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with the latest version of iOS 18 beta. Surprisingly, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which were launched alongside the Pro models, do not support the AI capabilities.
Apple has not officially explained this limitation, but reports suggest that it is due to hardware requirements. Specifically, Apple Intelligence demands a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and at least 8 GB of RAM, which are absent in the iPhone 15 and earlier models.
However, there’s good news for future iPhone users. The upcoming iPhone 16 series is expected to feature the A18 chip and a minimum of 8 GB RAM across all four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This upgrade will likely make Apple Intelligence accessible on these devices.

Currently, Apple Intelligence is available on the iPhone 15 Pro series, with users able to access AI-driven writing tools, creative art transformation features, and Genmoji, which allows the creation of custom animated pictures. The AI-enhanced Siri, powered by ChatGPT, is another major highlight.
If you’re eager to experience Apple’s latest AI innovations on your iPhone, it’s crucial to check whether your device is compatible. For now, only the iPhone 15 Pro series users can fully explore what Apple Intelligence has to offer, but broader support is expected with the iPhone 16 series.
