The upcoming flagship smartphone for the Lumia series is reportedly slimmer, faster and stronger, along with a metal body. Such has been revealed in a tweet that contained a dimensionally distorted photograph of what could be the next Lumia's casing. A Twitter user has tweeted a photo along with a message, raising speculations on the Lumia series finally getting a flagship device since Microsoft's takeover of Nokia. The last flagship was the Lumia 930, released almost exactly one year ago. The device is currently being rumoured to be named Lumia 940, going by Lumia's naming standards.
Although nothing has yet been mentioned about the device, it is expected to be one of the first high-end smartphones running Windows 10. The tweet stated that the device will be "Slim,Strong(GG4) and Fast", hinting at Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to be used with the device, to add sturdiness. A slimmer form factor will aid the sharp-edged and slightly bulky rectangular design that Lumia has used till now, and a design change will be welcome. By fast, it has not been clarified whether the new Lumia will feature the latest hardware under its hood, or bank on Windows' efficient resource management to keep device performance impeccable. The leaked image is morphed and distorted in dimensions, but reveal a metal frame, hinting that it might do away with the coloured plastic backs and feature an all-metal body.

Ever since Microsoft's takeover, the Lumia series has mostly come out with budget– and mid-segment smartphones, and Windows phone enthusiasts have been left with a lack of a flagship smartphone. Recently, a smartphone dubbed the Lumia 1040 has been rumoured. Leaked by Evan Blass on Twitter, the Lumia 1040 is supposedly one of the two high-end smartphones that Microsoft has been said to be working on. This can very well mean that the two new phones are Lumia 940 and 1040.
The Lumia 1040 has been touted to be the successor to Lumia 1020, the smartphone that housed a stunning 41-megapixel camera. The Lumia 1030 was previously rumoured, but was later scrapped by Microsoft. While there is still no confirmed word about the Lumia 1040, it has been rumoured to have a 50-megapixel primary camera. We wait for further news on upcoming smartphones from Microsoft, who are busy fine-tuning Windows 10 for its July 29 launch.
