iPhone batteries have caught fire and exploded at two different Apple stores in the past two days. The latest incident occurred at Apple’s Calle Colón Store in Valencia, Spain and a similar event recently occurred at a Swiss Apple Store. As per 9to5Mac, the Spain incident happened when a technician was working on an unspecified iPhone battery and the Swiss fiasco occurred while removing the battery from an iPhone 6S Plus.

Starting with the battery snafu in Spain, it’s reported that the incident occurred at 1:30 PM yesterday. As per the report, the store employees threw dirt at the burned battery and vacated the premises while opening the windows to ventilate the emitted smoke. There is no information on which iPhone model was being repaired when this happened.

A similar mishap took place at a Swiss Apple Store in Zurich recently. According to a previous report, an overheating battery started emitting smoke and a store assistant reportedly sustained minor burns, while removing the battery from the iPhone 6S Plus. The Zurich Forensic Institute battery are examining the battery and the smartphone to determine the cause of the issue.

It is speculated that these happenings are the result of hasty battery replacements. Apple recently announced battery replacement programs at reduced prices for all iPhones whose performance dropped due to battery degradation. Apple had issued an update for preventing unexpected shutdown on older iPhones, however, they didn’t mention that it will cause hefty performance drops on the devices. The company also issued an apology for not being transparent with their customers and has lowered the price of battery replacements to Rs 2000, from the original price of Rs 8,200.
