iPhone 8 may feature ProMotion display technology used on new iPad Pros: Apple insider
As per Bloomberg Apple insider, Mark Gruman, the upcoming iPhone 8 will feature the same ProMotion display tech found on the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros. He also believes that the iPhone 8 will feature Apple’s rumoured Neural Engine chipset.
A new report by Bloomberg Apple insider, Mark Gruman states that the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 might get the same ProMotion display as the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros.
We first heard about Apple’s ProMotion display technology when the Cupertino-based tech company launched the new iPad Pros in June. ProMotion displays have a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz as opposed to 60Hz refresh rate sported by most smartphones in the market. The new iPad Pros were the first mobile devices to sport the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and if the IPhone 8 carries the same ProMotion displays, it will be the first smartphone in the market to do so.
At 120Hz, the iPhone 8 display is expected to offer ultra smooth performance and a more fluid UI. Apple’s Tenth Anniversary iPhone will also be able to scale both 24fps and 30fps content with ease if it sports ProMotion displays.
As per Gruman, the iPhone 8 will house the rumoured Apple Neural Engine chipset. The new chipset is expected to improve the way its devices handle tasks like facial and speech recognition. Gruman says that the Apple Neural Engine will also be capable of handling ProMotion and AI tasks. Further, Gruman also confirmed a recent report by known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. As per Kuo, the upcoming iPhone 8 will not sport an in-display fingerprint sensor, but will add support for 3D Facial recognition. Gruman confirmed the same.
The Apple iPhone 8 is expected to be announced at the company's fall event in September, alongside two new iterative updates to the iPhone 7, 7 Plus. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are expected to continue sporting 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LCD displays respectively. All the three iPhones are said to support wireless charging and should be available in 64GB and 256GB storage options.
