Apple blames exposure to ambient air for iPhone 6s battery issue
Apple has now issued a press release explaining the cause as exposure to ambient air
Apple recently announced a recall program for iPhone 6s models with battery issues. Apple's recall program was meant to address issues with models that shutdown unexpectedly.
Apple has now issued a press release explaining the cause as 'exposure to ambient air.' Apple says phones were exposed to 'ambient air in a controlled environment' during assembly leading to faster degradation of batteries.
"Our survey found that few in September 2015 to October during the production of the iPhone 6s device, before being put into a particular cell element battery pack is exposed to air for too long a controlled environment. So, two weeks ago we launched a global program to replace the affected batteries free. For the inconvenience, we want to apologize to the customer again. It is worth emphasizing that this is not a security issue," Apple says in a release.
Apple's press release aside, the company is simply playing down the manufacturing issue with select set of iPhone 6ses. Apple, however, is stressing on the fact that this isn't a safety issue. That statement must be coming in the wake of Samsung's Galaxy Note7 problem which led to company completely ending the production of the model.
Apple is not mentioning the number of devices affected by the issue but it is indeed dismissing it as a small number. Apple plans to add additional diagnostic capability in its iOS software update to detect and investigate similar issues in the future.
