iPhone 6 Plus sets “sparks and flames” on man’s bed in USA
HIGHLIGHTS

It’s literally as fiery as you think it is.

The iPhone 6 Plus has proved itself to be a fiery device… again. Atlanta resident David Grimsley was used to keeping his phone beside him on the bed when he went to sleep every night. On a similar night, the unassuming Grimsley suddenly woke up to an iPhone owner’s worst nightmare – his iPhone 6 Plus had caught fire.

He promptly shoved the fiery device off his bed on to the floor, where the fire died out. Thankfully, there was no massive damage to Grimsley, who managed to escape with a few minor burns on his hand. Apple promptly responded by offering to send a replacement device over to him, but ever since the accident, Grimsley has been worried about charging the device overnight, or even keeping it somewhere it may catch fire again. Such a problem happens to be the difficult situation for a phone-owner.

“There were sparks and flames, (and) I’m kind of nervous about plugging it in and leaving it on the bed or anywhere it could catch fire. It could happen again,” Grimsley told Fox 5. Additionally, he is concerned about Apple not being more worried about user safety after such an incident. This is not the first time such an incident is being reported, though. Roughly 12,800 kilometres from Atlanta, USA, an iPhone 6 caught fire and exploded when Kishan Yadav, its Gurgaon-based owner, was on a call with his friend. He reported of the device suddenly growing very hot and emitting sparks, following which he threw it away from his body. The device exploded as soon as it hit the ground.

Apple executives had refused to register this July 20th incident, asking Yadav to leave the phone with them for further inspection. They had stated that such an incident was never heard of in India, and further inspection on the incident would follow. Back in October 2014, US-based entrepreneur and business coach Phillip Lechter had reported of his newly-purchased iPhone 6 bending, puncturing the battery and exploding while it was in his trouser pocket, resulting in him suffering second degree burns.

Such fiery incidents have occurred over time, and the iPhone 6/6 Plus seems to have had a blast every now and then, giving Apple enough reason by now, to be slightly concerned about the safety of their devices. The pricing of Apple’s iPhones burns enough holes in numerous pockets, even without the near-accidents that these users have faced.
