iPhone 17 rumoured to feature the display upgrade iPhone fans have been waiting for
Still, iPhone users have to settle for a 60Hz refresh rate and a non-LTPO display if they are not buying a Pro model.
The word on the street is that the iPhone 17 will get to see a major display upgrade.
Apple can also potentially use LTPO technology and 120Hz refresh rate across all four iPhone 17 models.
Nearly two months back, Apple unveiled its latest iPhone 16 series and rumours about the next iPhone 17 series have started doing rounds. This time the leaks that we have come across suggest that Apple might be planning some design changes for its base iPhone 17 models. Time and again iPhone users have complained that despite paying a good deal to score an iPhone, they have to settle for a 60Hz refresh rate and a non-LTPO display if they are not buying a Pro model. And this time it seems that Apple is going to answer that.
The word on the street is that the base variants of the iPhone 17 series, that is the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air will get to see a major display upgrade. Apple might equip both of these iPhone 17 models with ProMotion displays. This means that just like the Pro models, the standard iPhone variants can also feature up to 120Hz refresh rate against the current 60Hz.
Apple can also potentially use LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology across all four iPhone 17 models. Apple will source these LTPO displays from Samsung and LG which are key suppliers for its high-end screens, as per a report from South Korea’s ETNews. Apple had used the LTPO display for the first time on the Pro models with the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. It allows for variable refresh rates and adjusts the screen’s refresh rate based on the activity, making it more power-efficient.
However, let’s not get our excitement high already. Apple has not confirmed anything yet and the company has about a year to decide on the final specs. But it is about time we get to see this upgrade on the base iPhone models too. What do you think?
