iPhone 17 Air may ditch physical SIM tray to get ‘thinnest iPhone ever’ title
HIGHLIGHTS

The iPhone 17 Air will be between 5mm and 6mm thick, and it may not have a physical SIM tray.

In comparison, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are 7.8mm thick, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are 8.25mm thick.

iPhone 17 Air is said to feature a 6.6-inch screen.

The iPhone 17 Air, the rumored replacement for the iPhone 16 Plus, will reportedly be the thinnest iPhone ever. Last week, a leak suggested that the new iPhone 17 Air would have a 6mm thick body, making it much thinner than the iPhone 16 series. The most recent leaks claim that it will be even thinner. According to the Information report, the iPhone 17 Air will be between 5mm and 6mm thick, and it may not have a physical SIM tray.

In comparison, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are 7.8mm thick, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are 8.25mm thick. Apple’s new iPad Air is 6.1mm thick, while the iPad Pro is 5.1mm thick, and the company is reportedly looking for a similar design for the upcoming iPhone 17 Air.

However, iPhone fans may have to compromise on a few things, such as the physical SIM tray, sound experience, and so on. According to reports, the iPhone 17 Air may only have one speaker because there isn’t enough room for two. According to the report, the iPhone 17 Air will use an Apple-designed modem that is smaller and more efficient, but it may not support mmWave, resulting in slower data speeds than current Qualcomm chips.

iPhone 17 Air Specifications (Expected)

iPhone 17 Air is said to feature a 6.6-inch screen. Under the hood, the device may come powered by Apple Silicon’s new A19 chipset and a minimum of 8GB RAM. Due to the thin design, the iPhone 17 Air will feature an even smaller battery than the current flagship iPhones, which means it will be smaller than 3,561 mAh ( claimed iPhone 16’s battery).

In terms of optics, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to use a single 48 MP rear camera. For selfies, it may feature a 24MP front camera.

iPhone 17 Air Launch Timeline (Expected)

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to make its global debut in September 2025 with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
