iPhone 16 series may introduce touch-sensitive Action Button: More functionalities tipped
A new leak claims that the iPhone 16 series will feature a whole new and upgraded Action Button.
The Action Button is rumoured to be integrated into all four models of the iPhone 16 series.
The new Action Button could be similar to the Touch ID Home button on older iPhones.
Apple introduced the high-anticipated ‘Action Button’ this year with the iPhone 15 Pro models. This Action Button replaced the famous mute slider. However, apart from muting the smartphone, the Action Button can significantly do much more. A new leak claims that the iPhone 16 series will feature a whole new and upgraded Action Button. Interestingly, the Action Button is said to be integrated into all four models of the iPhone 16 series. Whereas, in the iPhone 15 series, only the Pro models have it.
Long rumoured for iPhone 15 Pro models, the capacitive Action Button is now rumoured for the iPhone 16 smartphones. Apart from being touch-sensitive, the next Action Button is also said to offer more functionalities than the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action Button. According to a report by MacRumors, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with an Action Button. This could be similar to the integration of Dynamic Island in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series.

Furthermore, the report includes that the new Action Button will be similar to the Touch ID Home button on older iPhone models or the Force Touch trackpad in the latest MacBooks. This means, the button can detect how hard are you pressing it and will operate accordingly.
Well, for now, we don’t have many details on the added functionalities that the new captive design could bring to the table. In the present scenario, the action button can be used for many features but once at a time. Possibly a new and improved version of the Action Button could come with multiple functions that could be linked to single-press, double-press, and long-press triggers.

If media reports are to be believed, the California-based tech giant has “experimented with different sizes for the Action button.” During the pre-production phase of testing, Apple included an Action button bigger than the one on the iPhone 15 Pro, resembling a volume button in size, on one of the prototypes.
