iPhone 16 Pro to support 5G Advanced network with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem: Report
HIGHLIGHTS

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max smartphones will likely be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75 modem.

The Snapdragon X75 supports the latest "5G Advanced" standard.

The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to come with the Snapdragon X70 modem.

There have been several rumours about Apple‘s upcoming iPhone 16 smartphone series. According to a new report, the Pro models of the forthcoming series are expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, supporting 5G Advanced network.

In a research note with investment firm Haitong International Securities, technology analyst Jeff Pu said the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, reported MacRumors.

Pu also said that he expects the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to come with the Snapdragon X70 modem used in the iPhone 15 series.

With the exception of the low-end iPhone SE, Apple has typically employed the same Qualcomm modem across all models for each generation of iPhones, so this would be a strategic shift for the company.

The Snapdragon X75, introduced in February 2023, outperforms the X70 in terms of 5G download and upload speeds due to improved carrier aggregation and other technological developments. The modem’s combined mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G transceiver utilises up to 20 percent less power and 25 percent less circuit board space.

Additionally, the Snapdragon X75 supports the latest “5G Advanced” standard, which is referred to as “the next phase of 5G” and a “evolution towards 6G.”

“5G Advanced will include artificial intelligence and machine learning enhancements for improved 5G performance, and it will also expand 5G to additional types of devices and use cases,” the report said.

The iPhone 16 Pro variants might be marketed by Apple as having “5G Advanced,” similar to how the iPhone 6s received capability for “LTE Advanced” in 2015.

Earlier, it was rumoured that the tetraprism lens with up to 5x optical zoom, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphone model, might expand to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max next year.
