Apple could accommodate more transistors and specialised components in the chipset.
There’s a lot of buzz around Apple lately, especially with its lawsuit and everything. But today I am not here to talk about that. We will discuss something related to the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro. I am talking about Apple’s A18 Pro chip which the tech giant might be working on. A recent 9to5Mac report has revealed details about the same. It says that AI could be a major go-to this time. Read along for details.
Apple’s A18 Pro chip to give iPhone 16 Pro AI powers?
With the new chipset that Apple is working on, AI could be the centre of attention. We have been hearing for a while now that Apple is pulling up its socks towards AI. Jeff Pu an analyst at Haitong International Tech Research, “According to our supply chain checks, we are seeing growing demand for Apple’s A18, while its A17 Pro volume has stabilized since Feb. We note Apple’s A18 Pro chip, the 6-GPU version, will feature a larger die area (compared to A17 Pro), which could be a trend for edge AI computing.”

Apple could increase the dip area of this chipset. What does dip area mean? A larger dip area basically means that it could accommodate more transistors and specialised components. This will offer an increased performance. But on the other hand, it can also impact energy efficiency and heat dissipation.
The A18 chipset could be introduced with the iPhone 16 series and before that Apple really has to strike a balance between these two possibilities. It will also utilise cloud infrastructure (potentially in partnership with Google) for some features, and at the same time will run some other features completely on the device.

Reports suggest that both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will feature this chip. We will have to wait and see what actually ends up happening.
