Apple recently launched the much-awaited iPhone 16 series, and it’s still creating a lot of buzz among tech enthusiasts and loyal fans. With new features, many were eager to see how the latest models would perform in the market. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared updates regarding the sales numbers for the iPhone 16.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Kuo shared that assembly orders for the iPhone 16 series have largely remained steady. Suppliers were instructed to keep producing the two Pro models during China’s National Day holiday, a sign that demand for these models has generally met expectations so far. However, some component orders for the iPhone 16 base model and 16 Plus have seen slight reductions for shipments starting in mid-November, ranging from 3% to 5%. This reduction is considered “negligible.”
Despite the steady performance of the Pro models, Kuo noted that the demand for the iPhone 16 model and 16 Plus is not as strong as it was last year. This could indicate a shift in consumer preference, with more customers opting for the Pro variants instead.
Interestingly, the shipments of the iPhone 16 Pro are aligning with those of last year’s 15 Pro, although the shipping times for the iPhone 16 Pro are currently shorter than those for its predecessor.

Looking ahead, Kuo emphasised that the next focus will be on how demand in the US market evolves once Apple Intelligence becomes available later this month. This feature might significantly influence sales.
Despite the mixed demand for the base models, Kuo is maintaining his production estimate for the iPhone 16 at 88-89 million units for the fourth quarter of 2024. This figure is slightly lower than last year’s estimate of 90-91 million units, Kuo noted.
