If you own an iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max and have noticed your device freezing and restarting randomly, you’re not alone. A growing number of users are experiencing these frustrating issues, and it seems that even the latest updates haven’t solved the problem.
Many iPhone 16 Pro users have taken to platforms like Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and Apple Support Communities to voice their concerns. The main issue? Their phones freeze without warning and then reboot on their own. iPhone 16 series launched in September, and continued to this week.

Unfortunately, even though Apple has released iOS 18.0.1 and iOS 18.1 updates, these haven’t fixed the random restart bug, reports MacRumors. The glitch can occur at any time, whether the phone is being actively used or even when it’s in StandBy mode. Users report that their phone screen becomes unresponsive or slow to react to touch inputs just before the device restarts.
The majority of complaints seem to come from owners of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, indicating that the issue may be limited to the higher-end models. While the issue appears to be infrequent for most, some users have reported experiencing up to 10 to 20 crashes per day. This kind of disruption can be incredibly inconvenient, especially for those who rely heavily on their phones for work or personal use.

Interestingly, a few users who reached out to Apple support were offered replacement devices, only to find that the problem persisted even with a new phone. In some cases, performing a fresh installation without restoring from an iCloud backup has resolved the issue, which suggests the bug could be related to iCloud syncing.
For now, all affected users can do is wait for Apple to release a fix. If you’re dealing with random restarts, keep an eye out for the next software patch — hopefully, that will finally resolve the issue.
