iPhone 15 Pro could ditch the Ring/Silent button too.
It could bring an Action Button instead in its place. Let’s see what features Apple could allow you to use this button for.
The latest iOS 17 beta update hints at the features of a new button on the iPhone 15 Pro, supposedly called the Action Button. This button has been part of leaked renders of this device. It is expected to replace the signature Ring/Silent switch. So, it comes at a price.
Speaking of price, a recent report by MacRumours also gives us an idea of how much the new iPhones cost around:
Apple iPhone 15 series price expectations
Tim Long, an analyst at Barclays expects Apple to price the base models of the iPhone 15 series as follows:
iPhone 15: $799 (the same as iPhone 14’s starting price)
iPhone 15 Plus: $899 (the same as iPhone 14 Plus’s starting price)
iPhone 15 Pro: Up to $1,099 (vs iPhone 14 Pro’s $999 starting price tag)
iPhone 15 Pro Max: Up to $1,299 (vs iPhone 14 Pro Max’s $1,099 starting price tag)
iPhone 15 Pro Max is pricier because of a periscope telephoto sensor, which the Pro model lacks.
Speaking of things it lacks, the iPhone 15 Pro (and probably other iPhone 15s) could drop the Ring/Silent switch and get an Action Button instead.
Although the so-called Action Button should give you a hint of what it could function like, we have more clues about its features, thanks to the latest iOS 17 Beta 4 update.
Here’s what we know:
iPhone 15 Action Button features (Expected)
Silent Mode: First and foremost, it will carry on the ring/silent toggle for calls and alerts.
Accessibility: You could perhaps use the Action Button to quickly access features like VoiceOver, Zoom, AssistiveTouch, etc.
Shortcuts: The action Button could let you trigger Apple Shortcuts you have on your device.
Utilities: How cool would it be to open the camera app/flashlight/ translate app/voice memo app/ magnifier app, etc just by the tap of the Action button without even turning on the lockscreen?
Focus: It would be interesting to see Apple letting you activate/disable various focus modes just with this Action Button.
Well, one button that can be mapped to use any of these features is interesting nonetheless. Let’s see how it pans out. The iPhone 15 series is not far from us.
