Apple has launched four new iPhones.

The new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro bring major upgrades.

iPhone 14 Pro models are powered by the A16 Bionic chipset.

Apple's big Far Out event is finally over, and with its end, we now have information about the company's new iPhones for the year. As expected, Apple unveiled an interesting lineup of new iPhones, including the iPhone 14 and its larger-sized sibling iPhone 14 Pro, which brings some substantial upgrades with it over last year's line-up of iPhones. In addition, Apple also launched two more phones, in the form of the larger iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max — the latter bringing similar major upgrades as the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

Apple's iPhone 14 and 14 Plus draw inspiration from the iPhone 13’s design, which includes the much-hated notch for the phone’s selfie camera and Face ID sensors. The phones also have flat displays. On the iPhone 14 this is a 6.1-inch display, while on the 14 Plus it is a bigger 6.7-inch panel.

While there are other differences between the two, the biggest similarity is the fact that the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus use Apple's last year’s A15 Bionic chipset. This is a major move for Apple, as it equips its new phones with its latest processors.

Both the phones also offer the same cameras, with the same sized ultrawide lens and a new 12-megapixel primary camera that also brings with itself a sensor-based stabilisation. As per Apple, this new lens will pull in more light and allow for 49% improvement in low light image quality. This will also be partly down to the new Night Mode which on the phones will be twice as fast as last year. Additionally, there will also be a new 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera with autofocus. Further, Apple is also adding its Deep Fusion image processing for better camera performance and color rendering.

Apart from this, the two phones will differ when it comes to battery life, with the iPhone 14 Plus model offering better battery life of the two phones — in fact the best battery life of all iPhones launched today. The two phones will also bring support for emergency messaging via communication satellites. This will be called Emergency SOS. When out of cellular range, the phone’s antennas will latch on to satellite frequencies to take less than 15 seconds to send a message with a clear view of the sky.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

Along with the two above-mentioned phones, Apple also launched two new phones in the form of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. These are the most powerful iPhones launched by Apple yet and were introduced by Apple CEO Tim Cook as the “most innovative pro lineup yet.”

The iPhone 14 Pro models are available in two sizes — 6.1- and 6.7-inch options. However, the two phones do not bring the usual notch and replace it with a pill-shaped cutout that houses the Face ID. There is also a cutout for the front-facing camera on the panel. Further, both the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will offer for the first time always-on display on an iPhone. There will It will also support a host of new iOS-linked features on the new iPhone 14 line-up.

The two phones interestingly will be powered by Apple's new A16 Bionic chipset — instead of the A15 Bionic that is being used on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Apple claims this 4nm fabricated chip is the company's most power-efficient and powerful chipset to date. The chip will also house a six-core CPU, of which two will be high-performance cores and four efficiency cores. There will also be a new ISP inside which will power the camera setups on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Talking about the cameras, for the first time, the iPhone 14 Pro models will get a big 48-megapixel sensor. Apple claims that the primary sensor will offer great improvements to low-light photography all because of it uses a quad-pixel sensor with f/1.78 aperture and 24mm focal length. There will also be an ultra-wide camera with new features and improved low light performance. Completing the camera set-up will be a telephoto lens which Apple claims will offer up to 2x better performance compared to last year.

Of the two phones, it is the iPhone 14 Pro Max which will offer the bigger battery, while the iPhone 14 Pro will likely offer a similarly sized battery as iPhone 14.
