iOS hit by WireLurker malware
Apple iOS hit by WireLurker Malware which affects stock iOS devices and transmits via USB.
The Internet has been abuzz recently about a malware called WireLurker which can affect your iOS device via USB. Now generally iOS is only affected by such malware when the device is jailbroken but this new malware is different since it can affect stock devices as well.
The malware allegedly started in China from Maiyadi, a 3rd party app store, which loads apps into iOS via Mac OS. The malware WireLurker is dangerous since it changes apps already on the device through binary file replacement and turns those apps into malware as well.
Early research suggests that thousands of devices have been affected since the infected apps have been downloaded over 3,50,000 times. If you own an iOS device, just be sure not to charge your device via unidentified sources and avoid 3rd party app stores.
