iOS 4 is accused for having bad battery efficiency on older iPhones

Yet another ‘allegation’ against iOS 4. After being accused of issues regarding poor antenna performance, this time the finger is pointing at the battery drainage due to the software, when operating on older iPhone builds.

At the Apple support forum, lots of users posted about this issue, complaining that updating their operating system to iOS 4, their older iPhones (3G, 3GS) started consuming battery at a ridiculous rate. Treating it as a side effect of multitasking and background processes didn’t help the fact. Some of the users say, even when NO processes are running but the phone is in normal standby mode, it consumes 20x more charge than ever before, and is always warmer than it should be.

There are some rare cases, where users have even experienced no power consumption(!) with their devices after upgrading the OS. The distress doesn’t end here; the trouble with multitasking is also a raging issue, that is probably the next major issue to be exposed for Apple iOS 4.

As there hasn’t been any comment from Apple, the battery drainage issue is still not official. We will be keeping you updated  as the story progresses – keep your eyes on the ThinkDigit pages.
