Intex’s quad-core Aqua Wonder 2 to launch on April 15 at Rs. 9,990
Intex is expected to enter the quad-core budget smartphone race as early as April 15 with the launch of the Aqua Wonder 2. The smartphone will be priced under Rs. 10,000.
Mr. Sanjay Kumar Kalirona; General Manager– Mobile Business; Intex Technologies (India) Ltd. informed us that the company would enter the quad-core budget smartphone race soon, with a device that will priced under Rs. 10,000. Now, information circulating the Internet suggests that the smartphone will be called the Aqua Wonder 2 and will be launched on April 15 (some reports suggest April 12), for Rs. 9,990.
Under the hood, MediaTek’s MT6589 quad-core processor will power the Intex Aqua Wonder 2. This is the same chipset that was introduced with the launch of the Micromax A116 Canvas HD in India.
In terms of other specifications, the Intex Aqua Wonder 2 will have a 4.5-inch IPS display with a 960×540 pixel resolution. The MediaTek’s MT6589 quad-core processor is clocked at 1.2GHz and is supported by 512MB of RAM. The smartphone also boasts of dual-SIM connectivity and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The rear houses an 8MP camera where as the front has a 1.3MP video-calling camera. The Aqua 2 has 2GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. An 1800mAh battery powers the entire package.
The Intex Aqua Wonder 2 will be priced under the Rs. 10,000 price point. This isn’t the first 4.5-inch smartphone to launch with the MediaTek’s MT6589 chipset. We have seen the launch of the Xolo Q800. It is priced at Rs. 12,499 and is available online. Apart from the MediaTek’s MT6589 processor and the 4.5-inch qHD IPS display, the Q800 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Other specifications of the Xolo Q800 include 4GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB); an 8MP rear BSI camera with 720p HD video recording, burst mode, and a dedicated camera key; a 1.2MP front-facing camera; a YAMAHA 168 PA music system; dual-SIM (GSM GSM) capabilities; and a 2100mAh battery that’s rated to deliver up to 360 hours of standby time, 16 hours of talk time (2G), 22 hours of continuous music playback, and 4.5 hours of continuous video playback.
Another smartphone that boasts of the MediaTek’s MT6589 SoC is the Jiayu G4. The reason the Jiayu G4 looks tempting is because it has a 720p HD 4.7-inch display and is priced at Rs. 9,000. The rear has a 13MP camera where as the front has a 0.3MP video-calling camera. We will of course comment more on its performance once we put the device through its paces.
