Indian Railways to introduce mobile ticketing and other services soon

The Indian Railways has announced new mobile services for its customers, making their lives easier. Specifically, the new services will allow customers to book train tickets over their phone, and, to provide a virtual copy of the ticket.

To book tickets via their phones, customers will have to register on the www.indianrailways.gov.in, where they will get a unique ID to use on railway bookings, and download a mobile ticketing application. Mobile booking will be open seven days a week, just like the web counterpart, and closed for the same hour, between 11:30pm to 12:30am. Users will receive a non-transferrable SMS confirmation of the ticket. A single session can book a single ticket for up to 6 passengers. More details when they become available.

Customers can use a virtual copy for ticket checking purposes, by producing it on their PDAs, smartphones, tablets, or laptops.
