India’s mobile subscriber base rises to 884.37 million: TRAI

As many as 2.74 million new subscribers were added by the telecom operators in November last year, bringing the total number of telecom users in the country to 917.33 million, reveals the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The data says the mobile subscriber base in the country had risen to 884.37 million in November-end from 881.4 million, posting a growth of 0.34 per cent. In the preceding month, the telecom operators had added 7.79 million subscribers. The latest TRAI data suggests the teledensity in the country had risen to 76.18 percent.

According to the visitor location register (VLR) data, the total number of active mobile subscribers in the country was 635.39 million at November-end. Idea Cellular had added as many as 2.17 million new users, increasing its base to 10.39 million by November end. Tata Teleservices, however, lost 4.44 million with its subscriber base dipping to 83.39 million. Bharti Airtel added 0.96 million subscribers, with its subscriber base rising to 174.69 million. Vodafone also added 0.92 million new customers to take its user base to 146.84 million. Uninor added 1.86 million new subscribers, taking its subscriber base to 34.18 million. Aircel and RCom added 0.67 million and 1.01 million new users respectively.

State-run telcos BSNL lost 0.18 million users, while MTNL managed to add 31,787 during the period under review. The subscriber base of BSNL and MTNL stood at 96.01 million and 5.64 million respectively.

The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) continued its popularity among mobile users. Around 26.71 lakh subscribers sought MNP during the period under review. Since its launch, about 258.37 lakh subscribers across the country opted for the number popularity.
