Recent reports reveal that the upcoming iPhone Pro models will be assembled in India.

This is a big move as it solidifies Apple’s presence in India and is being seen as a strategy to switch base from China.

However, neither Apple nor Foxconn have confirmed this yet.

As September approaches, everyone is eagerly waiting for the launch of the iPhone 16 series. But ahead of that, we have some really big news coming in. Fresh reports suggest that Apple will assemble the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max variants in India too.

A recent report reveals that the high-end variants of the upcoming iPhone series will be assembled in India for the very first time via Apple’s partner Foxconn. This is a big move as it solidifies Apple’s presence in India and is being seen as a strategy to switch base from China.

Made in India iPhone 16 Pro?

A source told Money Control, “Every year, Apple seeks to deepen its manufacturing capabilities with partners in India. Production of Pro models has been under consideration for the last couple of years. This year, Apple will manufacture the Pro and Pro Max models in India to ensure the India-assembled iPhone 16 Pro models are available in the country after the launch.”

The report further unveiled that Foxconn’s facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, will soon start the ‘new product introduction’ (NPI) process for the Pro models of the iPhone 16. The same is expected to enter mass production after the launch of the upcoming iPhone series.

The same MoneyControl report revealed that when the iPhone series gets launched, initially the devices might get imported but Apple will drop the Indian-made Pro models within this fiscal year itself. This is probably going to be similar to what it did with the iPhone 15 Plus.

Neither Apple nor Foxconn have confirmed this yet. But this time Apple expects that there is going to be a higher demand for its iPhone 16 series. Media reports suggest that the company is preparing 90 million units of iPhone 16 devices for 2024 alone, which is 10% higher than the iPhone 15 series.

The Indian government itself wants Apple to manufacture its entire product range locally in the coming years, including laptops and desktops. Previously we had even heard that Apple might start production of AirPods in India early next year. So this is a welcome move.
