The team working on the OS reportedly includes former Nokia employees.

Huawei may be working on its own alternative mobile OS in an attempt to reduce its dependency on Google’s Android OS. According to a report by The Information, the team behind the OS is working in Scandinavia and includes former employees of Nokia. The project is also said to be in the initial stages of development. Further, the report also talks about Abigail Brody, former designer at Apple, who is reportedly hired to change the look of the company’s own EMUI. As per The Information, this move is to make Huawei’s skin look less like Apple’s iOS.

Huawei isn’t the only company that may be planning to move away from Android. A few days ago, it was reported that Samsung might also migrate entirely to its own Tizen operating system. Samsung is already selling some devices powered by its proprietary OS such as its Z-series of smartphones, Gear S2 smartwatch as well as other electronic devices. However, the Samsung Z1 and Z3 smartphones were aimed at the budget end of the market, while the company's high-end offerings run on Android. But, it is speculated that the company may be working on a high-end Tizen-powered phone that may launch this year.
