The Huawei Mate S will also come with a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with FHD display along with 3GB of RAM and 2.2GHz Kirin 935 SoC

Huawei has unveiled the Mate S at the IFA 2015, Berlin. As expected, the phone comes with Force Touch technology. The phone has a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4, along with a metallic unibody build. The device is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Kirin 935 Soc. There is 3GB of RAM, and the standard version comes with 32GB of internal storage, while the premium version will have 64GB of storage. There is also a 128GB version, that will be announced later. The phone has a 2700mAH battery and runs EMUI 3.1 layered over Android v5.1.

The phone has a 13MP rear camera that comes with optical image stabilisation and dual color LED flash, as well as an 8MP front camera. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back. The sensor utilises Huawei’s Fingerprint Sense 2.0 technology, an upgraded version of the one found on the Huawei Mate 7. Aside from unlocking the phone and making payments, Huawei states that the sensor can now do a variety of other tasks such as controlling notifications, scrolling through photos, answer calls and dismiss alarms.

The Mate S also happens to be the first smartphone to offer Force Touch Technology, which can differentiate between a light and heavy tap. It comes with Knuckle Sense 2.0, an updated version of the one found on the Huawei P8. Users can switch between apps using pre-programmed shortcuts, or create their own personalised knuckle shortcuts.

The Mate S has dual-SIM slots, and both are 4G LTE compatible. The phone will initially be available in more than 30 countries, and will be available for pre-order in Western Europe from September 15.

By launching the Huawei Mate S with Force Touch Technology, Huawei seems to have beaten the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in introducing the technology on smartphones. Both these devices are rumored to come with the same technology, and are expected to be announced at Apple’s launch event, scheduled for September 9.
