Huawei P20 Pro’s latest software update in India brings HiTouch feature, one-touch Paytm payment support and more
The latest EMUI software update for the P20 Pro weighs around 0.92 GB in size and updates the smartphone with new features.
Huawei is seeding the latest CLT-AL00 8.1.0.140 (C675) software update to its flagship P20 Pro (review) smartphone in India. It adds the HiTouch feature, a dedicated Paytm payments feature, and also updates the device’s Android security patch to June. Scrounging the web, we found that some other users are also receiving the update, so it’s safe to say that the patch is being rolled out in a phased manner. However, we have reached out to Huawei for additional information on the new Android update and will update the story accordingly.
The HiTouch feature is now integrated into the P20 Pro’s camera and it can be accessed via an ‘eye’ icon at the upper-right corner after booting up the camera. Tapping on the icon will boot up the company’s Scan app, which cannot be accessed from anywhere but the camera. Here, you will find two tabs on the bottom, one labelled Shopping and other named QR Code. The latter is pretty straightforward as it allows one to scan QR and barcodes. The Shopping option scans to identify products displayed on the screen using Amazon Assistant and recommends options to buy it. This is similar to the Samsung Mall feature, that lets users select any picture from their gallery and search shopping sites for the product.
There is also a new Paytm feature, which enables a user to dedicate one of their enrolled fingerprints to make payments. Unlocking the P20 Pro using the dedicated fingerprint will unlock the device and boot up the Paytm app and show the payment screen where one can scan a barcode for making payments. The option works when the phone is locked or screen is turned off. Huawei is also pushing ‘merged’ Google security patches for additional device security. The transition animations are also much smoother now.
The update is 0.92GB in size and it’s silently downloaded in the background. One will be able to use their phone while it’s being downloaded and users will be notified when the update is ready to be installed. Users are advised to take a backup of their personal data before updating the device and ensure that there is enough internal storage. It will take between five to ten minutes for the patch to be applied and users will be able to roll-back to the older version in case there are any issues.
We were also expecting the company to enable the automatic slow-motion video recording on the P20 Pro with the new update, which was previously rolled out for the Chinese P20 Pro units with the EMUI 8.1.0.123. With the feature enabled, a small target box appears on the screen while recording in slow-mo mode and video recording automatically starts at 960 fps, as soon as any movement is detected inside the box. The feature is similar to how the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus shoot slow-motion videos.
