Tecno has now launched the world's first smartphone with a triple-foldable display design.

The Huawei Mate XT is equipped with a 10.3-inch foldable OLED display.

There can be many use cases on this display since it is as big as a tablet.

Huawei has brought new and evolutionary technology to smartphones. The Chinese smartphone makers have now launched the world’s first smartphone with a triple-foldable display design. Yes, you heard it right. You have not two but three displays on a smartphone now. This is the Huawei Mate XT, which comes with a huge 10.3-inch foldable display. For some context, the latest Apple iPad Air is 11-inch. In a few years, we will have fewer smartphones and more ‘portable tablets’ if the foldable trend goes on. To be honest, I won’t mind that.

The Huawei Mate XT is equipped with a 10.3-inch foldable OLED display and packs a 5600mAh battery with 66-watt fast charging support. For photography, it uses a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope lens with 5.5x optical zoom.

What is Triple-foldable display tech?

It’s not only Huawei that has unveiled this tech, a few days back, Tecno also unveiled the Phantom Ultimate, which comes with a display that can be folded thrice.

The triple-foldable displays use a dual-folding design with two hinges, which creates a Z-shape. This setup results in three distinct screens: the outermost screen serves as a compact display when folded, while the device can fully unfold into a big panel. The folding mechanism allows the screen to be partially unfolded, offering different display sizes for various uses.

Now there can be many use cases on this display since it is as big as a tablet. Firstly, the binge-watching experience will be amazing. This is also because foldable smartphones are expensive, so you will probably get top-end displays in them. Apart from this, this tech might also allow you to use one of the screens as a keyboard, so you can also type on these displays.

Moreover, these smartphones can take phone multitasking to a whole another level. You have three displays and each one of them can individually function as well as your phone does. The ability to partially unfold the screen means you can adjust the screen size according to your task. For instance, you might partially unfold it to check emails or watch videos without using the entire screen. If you are a gamer then its big display is an advantage as well.

Three displays are also a great experience for taking video calls and meetings. And if we are talking about work here, then also the tri-fold design is decent. You not only get a big screen for reading, drawing, or writing but a regular-sized smartphone at the same time too.

But, do we even need it?

But, back to ground zero, what are we going to do with this technology? Do we even need it? Well, I don’t know what Tecno’s and Huawei’s OS is offering along with this new design but all the above-mentioned features don’t excite me enough to buy it. More displays mean more money also. Huawei launched this smartphone at a starting price of $2800, which is around Rs 2,40,000. With this amount, I can buy a flagship smartphone, a decent laptop, and a budget tablet that can do multitasking, writing, and drawing as well.

But again, portability here is the key feature. Would you carry three devices with you all the time or leave them and carry a triple-foldable smartphone in your pocket?
